		<description>Thanks Brad/Karen,

Brad,

You are absolutely right on when you say that the law is strongest when it is clear. Though law by nature, law is a horribly complex issue, the basic principles of what consitutes criminal behavior and what does not must be kept as simple as possible.

Those who wish to abide by the law must be able to do so knowing where they stand.

Karen,

You are probably right, and I bet proponents of this change would rather see the sex trade banned altogther.

Perhaps they view this move as a step toward that direction.

<description>Andrew, I suspect as you noted that proponents of the law are trying to discourage anyone from purchasing sex. It is likely their efforts to criminalize the sex trade led to them seek out other tactics. Your post brings out a very important point that legalizing sex trade does not end abuse but makes it easier to commit other criminal acts (sex slavery). Human trafficking is a horrible, ugly issue that is rampant in many places, such as Thailand. I agree with your points on all counts.

<description>Andrew, It seems hard to argue with your point of view. Such a large gray area is sure to cause confusion and lead to an excessive number of dubious prosecutions. Law is strongest when it is clear. Unfortunately, we&#039;re buried under a plethora of laws and clarity has become a rare commodity.
