Andrew, I was holding my breath as you were climbing the mountain and had to laugh with you as you reached your first turning point. I have driven mountain roads in fog with zero visibility and it does give a whole new meaning to mountaintop experience! Even though your application was not successful, the experience was definitely worthwhile. Thanks for sharing this Andrew, really got me smiling today!

"Messages in self-help books about climbing the highest mountain and reaching great peaks in one’s business or career do not necessarily apply in a literal sense."

I love that statement.

Mark,

I agree, each of us have different paths and what may be the right way for some may not be so for others.

'Following the crowd' is appropriate only when the crowd are headed in the direction which is appropriate for each of us to reach our goals and dreams.

Thanks Robert.

The experience did help to expand my horizons a little, and it certainly did form part of the process of laying the groundwork for me to go in a new direction.

A tip o' the hat for at least takin' the leap, Andrew - even in the midst of your misgivings! Too many times we allow our fears to keep us from thinking in new and possibly novel ways. If nothing else, it certainly expanded your horizon a bit. Perhaps it even gave you the freedom to think of doing your CURRENT endeavor, eh?

It is wise to listen to your intuition and also wise to widen your focus and not be one of the sheep that follow the crowd and the money in a traditional way.

Brad,

Yes, I remember hearing you say that you lived in Colorado, and when Robert mentioned about his holiday in the mountains of Colorado in his last blog post, I thought that must be somewhere near where you lived.

From what Robert says, it must be an extremely beautiful place.

Hi Andrew, Having lived in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, I had more than a few harrowing experiences with high altitude driving. Part of why these adventures are so energizing is the fear factor - so I think you are really on to something when you expand your career horizons.
