I can understand their concern about being made to pay compensation for allowing counterfeit sales on their site. The French court's decision could set a precedent and I believe there are already other manufacturers either taking legal action against eBay or seriously considering doing so. Nevertheless, eBay's lack of respect for LVMH's right to control distribution of their own merchandise was very poor, as was its disregard for legal proceedings. In public statements on the issue, the company tried to portray LVMH as the bad guy. I can see why eBay is concerned. Even if individual sellers are ultimately liable for counterfeiting, eBay's credibility is at stake. That being the case, you would think eBay would be on LVMH's side here; that is, the side of integrity. I don't understand their thinking here.
