My best blog post of 2008

general

For those who are unaware, writing coach Joanna Young has decided to host a group writing project, entitled “Simply the best,” whereby a wide range of participants will select the post which they feel represented their best effort during 2008.

This is a very good initiative, and I am honored to be taking part. The collective result will no doubt be a collection of very interesting discussion on a very broad and diverse range of topics.

Anyhow, my choice is Labor Sweatshops: Can Nike be trusted?

Under contest rules, I am required to explain, in thirty words or less, why I feel that my entry is ‘Simply the best’. Given the anticipated quality of other entries, this is a tough ask, but here goes:

“This post is simply the best because I feel that it examined some card hold facts about Nike’s labor practices which are often overlooked in traditional media reports.”

Again, this project is an excellent initiative and I am honored to take part.

Thanks very much for taking part Andrew. I hope it’ll be a good way of exposing your blog to other readers. Your choice was interesting, and a clear dispassionate discussion of some controversial issues.

Isn’t it good that blogs can go where traditional media often don’t bother?

    Thanks Joanna,

As I said on your blog, I am looking forward to reading some of the other entries.

I feel that often bloggers can pick up on different angles which are often missed by traditional media, and can explore such angles in more depth.

The wonderful thing about the blogosphere is that as bloggers, we are free to set our own agendas and explore any topic we like. Traditional media, on the other hand, are often limited by commercial imperatives and are therefore lack the freedom which is enjoyed by participants within the blogosphere.

Andrew, I’m so happy you participated. I enjoy your investigative reporting style and willingness to look at issues under reported in traditional media. The Nike post is another great example of your keen ability to comprehensively address the important issues. Well done.
