Thank you for visiting and commenting on my blog. My youngest daughter is of Korean Heritage! and she has brought so many lovely people into our lives. She loves it when others say she is so American. She wishes she was a blue eyed blond – I went to a workshop on racism this spring and heard so many Asian women speak of putting clothes pins on their noses at night and attempting to change their eye shape – sometimes I think we have a long, long way to go.

Spot on, Patricia – many parts of the world do not operate in the same way as the conventional developed world, and companies who continue to push deeper into emerging and developing markets should be well aware of this.

With regard to your point about human rights, there is no reason as to why we as a human race should not strive toward the goal of eliminating abuses of human rights on a global basis.

Very interesting and a reminder that the rules are not the same in foreign markets or countries. Human Rights are such an important issue as the planet is really quite small

Andrew, I applaud you for tackling the tough issues and bringing much needed attention to these breaches of business and human ethics. China has a poor record of human rights and it will continue if good people continue to be silent. The international business community (and ordinary citizens) can unite to bring about change.

Right on – and I don’t think the Chinese government is likely to change its ways anytime soon.

No problem. As much as these type of cases may be commonplace in China, that is no reason why netcitizens should refrain from speaking out important issues relating to human rights like this.

Cases like this can only serve to remind us about some of the potential risks associated with dealing with the Chinese government and other regimes which do not follow international best practice (to put it very mildly) with regard to their application of the law.
